Specially Challenged Section
Government of India has introduced in Government Polytechnic, Panaji, a scheme for the Specially
Challenged Persons, i. e. Persons with Disability, in our Society, to uplift
them, through appropriate Technical / Vocational Education. The objective is to
integrate such people in the mainstream of Technical / Vocational
Education.
Under this Scheme persons having at least 40% disability, which is to be
certified by the Authorised Medical Board, may be admitted to
one of the following groups:
- Technical Diploma Programmes of Government Polytechnic, Panaji, for those who have passed
10th / 12th Standard with at least 40% marks.
- Vocational / Skill Development Short Term Training Programmes
(No Essential Qualifications Required)
These Programmes are in areas , leading to Self-Employment or as per the expressed need
of the potential Job Requirement / Trade
Targeted Objectives
- To train 25 persons every year through Diploma programmes by integrating with the main stream.
- To train 100 persons every year through vocational/skill development training programmes.
- To provide wage/self employment opportunities for the trained persons.
Facilities under the Scheme
In order to integrate them in the main stream, the following incentives are provided.
- Financial help by way of exemption from payment of tuition fees, free hostel accommodation, book and uniform allowance, traveling allowance and scholarships.
- Structural help by way of construction of ramps to provide easy access and special toilets to cater to the basic needs.
- Psychological help by way of counseling.
Presently in Goa, only Government Polytechnic, Panaji, has this Scheme for
the Persons with Disability. However the Scheme is operative in 50 Polytechnics
all over India.
